here to help local youth

The pandemic has increased stressful situations for our youth. According to the trends in Benton & Franklin Counties, this was the local reality before COVID-19:

  • 30% of youth, from 8th to 12th grade are obese

  • 1 in 25 youth, ages 10-17 attempted or committed suicide

  • 5% of 10th graders use tobacco

Boredom, busy parents (as you should be), school and technology stress, an obscene amount of screen time, and decrease in physical activity are only making matters worse. Our area already lacked healthy activities and resources for youth outside of school, and now they’re stuck inside. They’re lacking healthy social experiences and physical education classes. That’s where we come in.

Tim Young, head strength coach and co-owner here at TCBC, has worked with hundreds of youth, providing them with an educational and enjoyable experience through proper strength training. He has 12+ years of experience working with K-12 students as a physical educator, college athletes in various universities as a strength coach, and has worked with hundreds more through TCBC. Ask anyone whose been through our program- he’s the “weights coach” we all wish we had in school.

we invite youth, ages *12-19, to learn with us!

No athletic affiliation or experience needed.

If you’ve read through our website you’ll know we offer instructed strength training with an educated and experienced strength coach, Tim. We’ve worked with hundreds of youth in the past, but want to help kids get through this pandemic now at a discounted rate. It was difficult being closed, but we had a lot of support along the way. Now we’re paying that forward.

I had no idea Tim would end up being one of the most influential people in my life.

so what is it? How does it work?

  1. $200/ month. No additional fees, tax included.

  2. The youth member will learn everything that all members do: proper strength training with correct technique, how to use the equipment, individual programming, basic training principles. nutrition guidance, and more.

  3. This is important. They will be REQUIRED to commit to a schedule. Training will be 2-3 days/week if their schedule allows, they’re making progress and enjoy training. Please trust us as professionals and know that we’re here for the child’s best interest.

  4. *Ages 12-19. Biological and chronological age are different, and important to us. This is a general age range, but not a guarantee. Not every youth is a good fit for our program. While we do our best to keep them safe, this is still weight training. Focus and the ability to take direction will be required. This is a really cool opportunity to learn and be physically active, but not “free time”.

  5. Things happen. Memberships can be transferred or put on hold, but cannot be refunded.

  6. PE@TCBC, it’s a fun name. Know that when we say “pe”, we mean that we’re focusing on what we’re best at, weight lifting. It will certainly be a educational experience. It will not include running or games. This is weights and nutrition talk!

how is this different from a tcbc membership?

It’s not really, we’ve always offered services to youth. We just packaged this as a 2-3 days/ week to fit the busy schedules of parents and encourage kiddos who wouldn’t typically start weight training on their own, to try it out!

want to sign up?

Space is limited, so please email us ASAP at: info@tricitybarbellclub.com and tell us you’re interested in a youth membership!

What stands out to me about Tim Young is his ability to teach and coach in a calm and respectful matter. His willingness to help people and to always do what is right is what I respect most about him.

We occasionally award youth “scholarships” to help pay for partial memberships, thanks to our incredible members who donated youth program funds during our pandemic forced closure. If your family is below the WA State poverty level for your family size and you have a youth desiring to join, please contact us.

TCBC is a for-profit, small, local business in Kennewick. We are just two people, Tim and Amanda, doing what we can for youth who deserve this opportunity. “Donations” to this program are not tax-deductible but incredibly appreciated and are doing SO MUCH good.
